Outdoor Education

Pupils in Year 10 and Year 11 participate in Outdoor Education. The core purpose of the subject is to provide opportunities, skills and experiences that build the resilience and confidence of our pupils.

Participating in a range of inclusive sports and activities (such as kayaking, orienteering, climbing and many more), we prioritise teamwork and encouraging each other to ensure that all pupils feel safe and supported in the new challenges. Many of our activities take place at a local specialist Outdoor Centre, Haven Banks (https://www.haven-banks.co.uk/) offering not only a new and stimulating environment but also an opportunity to learn alongside different adults and instructors.

Outdoor Education also allows the opportunity for pupils to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, putting the skills and attributes we have developed into practice in a range of different situations. Community-based activities also dovetail with Preparation for Adulthood (PFA), including some voluntary projects that contribute to our local area.
