Employability and Preparation for Adulthood (PFA)

Equipping our pupils for future employment and independence is a key priority for Southbrook school. Our KS4 pupils all engage with these two subjects as part of their curriculum as we help them prepare for the next steps the pupils will take at Post 16.

As part of the curriculum offer, pupils work specifically on the skills and knowledge they will need when they transition to their next educational setting. This includes the transactional skills and language our pupils will need to succeed and build the confidence to thrive in settings that will be new and unfamiliar.

In addition to preparation for Post 16 education, we firmly believe that it is imperative to try and equip our pupils to contribute to their own future independence. We prioritise investigating and learning about new careers (at all ages) but particularly in these lessons in KS4. This includes, learning about the requirements and mechanics of applying, interviewing and securing employment as well as outlining expectations and expected behaviours when in employment.

We aim to work with local employers in the community to develop links for our pupils to see possible future pathways to employment in adulthood.
