Tree Planting with Devon Wildlife Trust

25th November 2014

On Tuesday 18th November, we were lucky to have Devon Wildlife Trust join us in school. They brought with them ten fruit trees so that we could plant our very own orchard at Southbrook behind the Life Skills centre – all local varieties of apple supplied by local firm Adam’s Apples. They gave us some excellent lessons in how to plant the trees and how to keep them healthy, and also brought along a guest to help us plant them – the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Mr. Percy Prowse.

As you can see in the photos, the planting went very well. Everyone, including the Mayor, got really stuck in! We have promised to keep in touch with the Lord Mayor and make sure that he gets to sample the fruits of our labour next autumn. In the mean time, we will be keeping a close eye on our trees and ensuring that they stay well watered and hopefully produce lots of apples.
