22nd September 2016

On Tuesday 13th September we celebrated the 100th birthday of author, Roald Dahl. To mark this event, pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite Dahl character or wore his favourite colour, yellow.

In the morning pupils were welcomed into school with music and staff dressed as Oompa Loompas. Also Boggis, Bunce and Bean patrolled the playground hunting and chasing Fantastic Mr Foxes. In English pupils made Mr and Mrs Twit’s Mud Cakes and quizzed their Roald Dahl knowledge. In Science pupils created George’s Marvellous Medicine, making lots of different smells. Mr Caschere got pupils inventing their own chocolate bar, and in Design and Technology the children made dream jars from the BFG.

In the afternoon, members of the local community came in to school to read to the children; Anne Akile from School Library Service, Joanne Cousins from Exeter Library, Lorraine Hopkinson from Book-Cycle, Lewis Bell and Leeanne Horner from Exeter Pride, Reggie Ascott from Devon and Somerset Fire Brigade and the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cynthia Thompson. The afternoon was a big success. Pupils enjoyed listening to different readers and stories, and asking the Lord Mayor lots of questions about her role. Also the year 11’s served tasty FizzyLifting drinks and Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights.
