24th June 2014
On 19th June the school took part in the Greenpower Go Kart racing competition at Newquay aerodrome. This was the result of 3 weeks of hard work from Mr Veal, Mr Caschere and the Year 10 DT class in building our silverline kit car and one scary practice at West Point arena.
After a few technical hiccups we got the car through scrutineering – this was like an MOT. It was then onto the test track and to get the drivers used to the track. After a couple of successful runs disaster struck! One of our drivers hit a barrier and then crashed twisting the axel and breaking the front wheel. This meant that we could not compete in the actual race.
We will be back in September for the next race and then hopefully onto the finals in October. All 14 pupils who came up to Newquay were a real credit to the school as were the technical staff – Paul ‘Senna’ Caschere, Len ‘Mansell’ Veal and Jane ‘Schumacher’ Goddard.
